Something Silver: Not My Typical Wish List
You may raise your eyebrows or hide me or maybe even ‘unfriend’ me but I am still posting! This is worth 25 years of my reality.
These are what I’ve learned…
1. That I could CHOOSE to look younger than my age (‘cause my parents say I do LOL). Yes, it’s optional.
2. That I have to experience living outside my comfort zone. What a cliché: move out of the house or work overseas or quit from a 3-year job etc.. It was scary but it opened my eyes, made me discover new ‘zones’ I know I will never even notice had I not TRIED.
3. That I could earn more than I thought..and that I had to save - ‘cause it won’t last long. True enough, one random morning, I felt I couldn’t take it anymore and left :P
4. That unlike others, I like spending MY OWN hard-earned money. Why? Because they are MY OWN.. own sweat, own mind, own savings – NOT other people’s (that would be stealing and that’s against the law).
5. That I don’t care if people criticize me for changing jobs every..so often! It’s not quitting. So what if I haven’t found what it is that makes me happy yet? At least I know those that DO NOT (and left them with fairly good records :P).
6. That I am not a hypocrite and I always admit that I work to live, I mean, FOR SURVIVAL; and not really to establish a career nor climb any kind of ladder. I am a simple person and my dream is to live.
7. Ooh, that I could turn the stove on and COOK and not burn the house!
8. That one couldn’t marry for the wrong reason (aka rushing). Once in my life, I thought (and maybe most girls do), “hmm, the earlier the better.” As I mature, I realize that wedding & marriage are two different things. As you think you’re ready for the first one, you also have to FEEL you’re prepared for the next.
9. That Mom’s correct: Giving is better than receiving.
10. That snakes freak me out more than ghosts do.
11. That retail therapy is effective.
12. That long distance relationships might suck for some (or perhaps be expensive) but not if the other party is in Singapore. 3G works there 24/7; so whatsapp, viber, and skype can be your best friends. Plus, there’s no time difference!
13. That I will never be a ‘night-club-party’ person. I tried. The smell, other people’s sweat, and the tiny space I could stand on in exchange of my money DO NOT ATTRACT me at all.
14. That I will always be envious of those girls who can eat what they want and not gain weight. The world is cruel that way. As number 15 says, I had proven…
15. That I will gain weight if I do not discipline myself. As my boyfriend has put it though, living healthy is not just about 3 months worth of working out, it should be a lifestyle. Now I believe him.
16. That I will say it again: I am proud of Raf for he knows what he wants in his career. Talk about not going through quarter life crisis. He knew where he should be at.. what? 23? Some are 30 or even older and are still uncertain. For me, THAT makes him RICHER than those earning $$$, riding in their luxurious cars but go home every night frustrated on how they spent the past 8 hours of their lives – every single day.
17. That I call #16 ‘passion’ and that it’s a very important ingredient in any thing we do and it’s not always readily available.
18. That I find myself cursing smokers all the time. Cursing is bad but is fairly forgivable if you’re addressing it to someone who could probably end your life earlier!
19. That every girl should own at least 2 good handbags in her lifetime to pass on to future grandchildren. LOL or maybe I’m just making an excuse.
20. That this may sound shallow but the prettiest clothes are not always comfortable.
21. That I may not like my family every day, but I see how others LIVE & LIE; and it makes me proud how imperfect Mom, Dad, Sis, and I are and yet manage to survive TOGETHER – every single time.
22. That inside my head, I am laughing whenever I watch Reyane & Andre fight hardcore. It’s cute, funny, and definitely something I will share with them when they’re older..and taller.. than me! :(
23. That no one can actually dictate to me what to do next. I learn from my OWN experience alone and I don’t like the idea of having my future patterned after anyone else’s success.
24. That traffic, literally, is the first problem our country should address. It just makes everything slow and all else follows.
25. That doing this feels better than creating a birthday wish list which will only make me feel obliged to spend my savings.
